Boatbuilder/Restorer, and Systems Expert

Tumblehome Boatshop is seeking an experienced boatbuilder, or graduate of a boatbuilding program, to help with the restoration and construction of fine wooden boats. Applicant must be able to help with framing, planking, joinery and finishing, but also take a leadership role in the development and designing of marine systems, as well as motor installations, both electric and gas, both early and modern engines. Applicant will also be responsible for engine and systems maintenance on our small fleet of boats in we store and maintain.

Requirements

  • Education in wooden boatbuilding and restoration, minimum 1 year program, or a minimum of 4 years experience in the trade of building and restoring wooden boats.
  • Familiarity with a range of wooden boat construction, both traditional and modern methods. The more experience with a range of construction types, the better.
  • ABYC systems and electrical certifications most desired, but applicant must have at least familiarity with ABYC guidance for systems and engine installations, both electric and gas. Experience with antique engines a plus.
  • Experience with proper engine installation
    • Cooling systems
    • Exhaust
    • Engine gauges and controls
    • Drive line alignment
    • Engine and systems maintenance procedures
  • Applicant must communicate and work well with others.
  • Applicant must be able to communicate well with our clients and public.

Tumblehome Boatshop is focused on the high end restoration and new construction of historic and classic wooden boats. Tumblehome has won multiple awards for new boats as well as restoration of antique boats, and we work in a wide variety of boat type and boat construction, as well as boat size.

Our doors are generally open to the public. Our clients visit with their families and we strive to make every visitor both comfortable but also confident that the work being done is of top quality. The right applicant will not only be comfortable in this setting, but will excel in it.

Boatbuilder/Restorer

Tumblehome Boatshop is seeking an experienced boatbuilder, or graduate of a boatbuilding program, to help with the restoration and construction of fine wooden boats. Applicant must be able to help with framing, planking, joinery and finishing. Knowledge of marine fasteners, adhesives, bedding compounds, and typical wood species used boatbuilding is essential. Experience with metalworking and fabrication is a plus for us. Knowledge of shop safety and tool use is essential.
